Sericite, a term for a fine-grained white mica, is the cryptocrystalline form of muscovite. Sericite typically occurs as aggregates of tiny flakes and exhibits a silky sheen, which it imparts to the rocks that it is found in. The density is 2.78-2.88g/cm3. The hardnees is 2-2.5 and the ratio of thickness to diameter is more than 50. Sericite can be sliced extremely thin and has the most fineness and fat feeling. The sericite is flexible, capable of being flexed, anti acid, anti base, electric and thermal insulation(600 oC), low thermal expansivity. Meanwhile, it surface is good at blocking ultraviolet ray and wearing. Youngs modulus is 1505-2134Mpa. The tensile strength is 170-360Mpa. The shear strength is 215-302Mpa. Thermal conductivity is 0.419-0.670W.(m.K)-1. The main content of sericite is aluminosilicate. It is s a white, silky, shiny pigment with layered structure .
